“A Modern Luxury Colorado Resort”
Discover a modern luxury retreat at the Four-Diamond award-winning Omni Interlocken Resort. Well appointed rooms create a wonderful haven while the outdoor pools, spa, and demanding 27-hole championship golf course bring choices of activities. Conveniently located on the outskirts of Denver, Colorado, this year-round Colorado resort is a relaxing getaway or a central base for visiting dynamic Denver, the captivating Colorado foothills, and the exciting cities surrounding Denver. All this is found at the Omni Interlocken Resort along with the stunning views of the Colorado Rocky Mountains.
Off Highway 36, northwest of Denver, we locate the Omni Interlocken Resort, a high rise resort hotel that stands like an elegant monolith in a lushly landscaped business and commercial park of Broomfield, Colorado. After a cross country drive from Florida, we are definitely ready for some relaxation and fun activities. Settling in is easy at our spacious luxury one bedroom suite on the 11th floor with phenomenal, dramatic views of the snow-capped Rocky Mountains. Triple sheet custom bedding and refined furnishings give us the utmost in comfort and refinement. The large sitting area with comfy couch and chairs allows us to just chill and relax. Hurrah, the bathroom has a large vanity with a sink and an adjacent dressing area has a vanity, sink and mirror. No juggling over the sink, mirror, or power outlet! Modern conveniences are available from wireless internet to plush robes and in-room safe. The wet bar, refrigerator and two TVs are great extras as well as the complimentary evening turndown service.
Even though we are at 5,000 feet elevation, Denver is on a high plain and can still get warm in the summer. With temperatures approaching 90 degrees, we are ready to cool off. On the way to the pool we stop by the state-of-the-art fitness center with its wide array of exercise equipment. At the huge double deck pool area are two large heated outdoor pools and a whirlpool. Luckily a couple of cushy lounge chairs are available. After a dip, we relax in a chaise and take in the magnificent scenery from this vantage point of the rugged Rockies. Adding to the charm of the exotic pool area is a tepee for children and adults to enjoy.
Later the view from our room is a brilliantly hued Colorado sunset with the shadows adding a new dimension to the snow-capped Rockies. Absolutely magnificent! Venturing out for dinner we are off to the Flatiron Crossing, a large shopping mall, only a mile away. A dining section features a variety restaurants and eateries. As the evening cools off, we stop for drinks at the Omni’s Tap Room and Terrace Restaurant and Bar. The terrace and pool are packed. It’s Friday Night Movie Night! Families, couples and kids are enjoying the pool and terrace as they watch a movie on a big screen on the side of the hotel. A fun and fantastic way to cool off and be entertained.
Fore! Today we take on the Omni Interlocken Golf Course, ranked the Third Best Course in the Rocky Mountain region by Golf Magazine in 2008. Located a couple of miles from the hotel we unload our clubs and have plenty of time to warm up before our game. The practice facility features five bent-grass target greens, a short game practice green, driving ranges and large putting green. Omni Interlocken Resort Golf Club is a 27-hole facility, consisting of three individual regulation 9-hole courses; Eldorado, Vista and Sunshine. We are playing Sunshine and Eldorado and are paired with Pete, a local member. Pete shares many welcome suggestions for playing the course.
The Interlocken Course is in great condition and offers plenty of challenges as it winds through the business park. The Sunshine Course slowly climbs to offer a variety of golfing demands and even more spectacular views of striking Colorado scenery. Each hole has a new dimension for playing it well from avoiding the numerous bunkers to the several water or marsh hazards. The club grabbing rough makes it difficult to execute a clean swing. Tall native grasses line the fairways adding a dramatic contrast to the deep green of the fairways and greens. Yes, it is easy to lose your ball in there, too. An open course with more of a links-style, it really keeps us alert. The GPS is helpful especially in being aware of hazards and water to carry on some holes.
As we approach Sunshine No. 4, a par-4, we admire the beauty of the hole and its layout. Proper club selection is essential on the approach shot over a ravine to a severely sloped green. Drat! Both our balls roll off the green. Putting is difficult, so it bogies. No. 7 is the number one handicap on the Sunshine Course at 470 yards from the championship tees. It is a beautifully designed hole that offers fantastic panoramic views of the area. We carefully play our approach shots avoiding the large bunkers and ravine to the left of the green.
The Eldorado Course brings new challenges and entirely different scenery of the Colorado Rockies. It is a dynamic and dramatic course. Holes have blind shots, water hazards and, of course, plenty of bunkers. Our favorite hole is Eldorado No. 9, a par-5. Richard and I are both in great shape for our approach shot over a small ravine in front of the green. A time when distance and accuracy are critical! Plus the green is large with a multi-tiered slope. We both execute our shots landing on the green. Awesome! It is pars for both of us! The Omni Interlocken Courses are in wonderful condition and will provide a truly exceptional experience for the amateur and pro golfers. Plus they are available at a very reasonable price.
After golf we enjoy a light lunch and relax in our comfy suite. Then it is off to the Boulder Dinner Theatre just 20 minutes away in Boulder, Colorado. The Boulder Dinner Theatre provides live Broadway quality entertainment with a dining experience. Tonight’s show is CAT’s. Wow! A fun evening and terrific performance! Our dinner, served by the actors and actresses is delicious. This is a super finale to our visit to the Omni Interlocken Resort.
If you go: The Omni Interlocken is a great location for using as a base to explore Denver as it is close to a Light Rail Station giving easy access to downtown.
