About Richard

My background is in the sales arena.  After graduating from Wayne State University in Detroit, MI, I initially worked with Marathon Oil in Michigan, then a transfer to Florida opened up new opportunities in “paradise.”  No more snow!  Working in various gas related industries mainly in the Tampa Bay area was my main career path.  Once Charlene and I met, travel became a major passion, interest and endeavor before and after retirement.

While Charlene is the primary motivator, planner, and writer, I have a major influence on our activities.  One role with the travel writing is I serve as Editor for each travel article.  Plus often after Charlene has planned a trip and itinerary, I’ll review it and make a suggestion for an additional venue, location, or different option for the trip.  Looking at the trip from a different prospective, we frequently evaluate the new suggestions and soon it is included in the revised schedule.

Flexibility is something Charlene and I have learned with our travels.  When traveling you have to be willing to try something new.  Heck, I did not have zip-lining (link) on my “bucket list” but now I have successfully zip-lined on an adult course in North Carolina, as well as, took my grandson on a fantastic zip-line experience for kids.  He was thrilled!  Then seeing the huge smile on his face taking him whitewater rafting is an experience I’ll never forget.

While I love traveling, I also likes extended stay getaways. An especially favorite summer getaway, for a reprieve from Florida’s summer heat, is the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina. Accordingly, for over 12 years we escape to the mountains for both a respite and to seek new mountain adventures.  Our summer getaways are usually around Asheville, North Carolina.  Oh, yes with our grandchildren and family less than 2 hours away from Asheville, they join us for fun and exciting expeditions.  Just SEARCH “Asheville” or “North Carolina mountains” on seniortraveltalesandtips.com for our many tales of our mountain adventures. I am the primary lead on researching, locating, and negotiating vacation rentals for our extended stay getaways that range from a week to three months.  While staying in the same place each year may be an option, we find that getting a different vacation rental provides more variety with each visit.  Keeping each return to the mountains fresh and revitalizing.

Travel writing has opened so many doors for Charlene and me, as well as, reminding us to be adventuresome, even as seniors.  We have great experiences to share, varied ideas, and many travel tips for making your adventures more exciting and dynamic.
